Mayor Lyons has proclaimed the week of May 1 - May 7, 2011 as Local Government Week in the City of Osage Beach.
The proclamation signed by Mayor Lyons reminds us that local government is the backbone of our democracy, the bedrock of our political system, and a testimony to liberty, freedom and the right to elected self government. The citizens of Missouri rely upon the local government to deliver essential community services such as clean water, police and ambulance services. The key element in maintaining the overall quality of life in Missouri is the continued success of our local governments.
Through education and awareness, the importance of local government can be communicated to our citizens, state legislators, the news media and with the recognition of local governments' accomplishments, Osage Beach residents will acquire a better understanding of how essential local services are provided. By establishing an annual 'Local Government Week', focus will be put on the need for strong, independent and active local government in this State and will recognize the valuable contributions made by the residents serving their communities in public office.
Please take time this week to thank your local City officials, City employees and citizen volunteers.
